Description

Factor 55 introduces a new aluminum Hawse Offset Fairleads The fairleads are CNC machined from 1.5" thick USA 6000 series aluminum bar The industry standard thickness is .75". The increased material thickness results in a larger outside radius for the synthetic rope to slide on. This results in less stress on the rope fibers at high pull angles and increases the life of your synthetic rope. The offset fairleads are the industry's first Hawse offset fairleads compatible with larger ½" diameter rope tube thimbles. There is also a machined outside corner bevel to reduce rope stress for those who want to use the winch as a "suck down" device (e.g. trail competitions). The fairlead is hard anodized in a durable MIL-A-8625F TYPE III gunmetal gray and features a laser engraved logo. What is the best surface finish for aluminum fairleads? Without a doubt it is a Type III hard anodized coating. No cosmetic Type II anodized finishes, no powder coating and no raw or polished aluminum. Why? Because a hard coating can withstand the abrasion of a dirty/grainy synthetic winch rope rubbing against it. Especially in extreme side pulls where the stress on the rope fibers is extremely high. A Mil-A-8625 Type III hard anodized finish leaves behind a .002" thick Al2O3 ceramic coating that is one of the 5 hardest materials known to mankind. Actually, not far off the hardness of diamonds. Another valuable material property of hard anodized coatings is the low coefficient of friction. Low friction = less rope heat. Only downside? Hard anodizing is not offered in the typical bright and fancy anodized colors. All Factor 55 fairleads are available exclusively in Mil-A-8625 hard gray. It's not particularly fancy, but it's the right finish to extend the life of your synthetic rope. Overall Dimension: 11.75 x 3.4 Offset Opening: .80. Thickness: 1.5. Standard 10 bolt mounting spacing For synthetic winch rope only.
